Our Experience

Our appellate experience covers seven states, all federal circuit courts, the Supreme Court of the U.S, all armed forces appeals courts for the U.S. Army, U.S. Navy, and U.S. Marines, and U.S. Air Force.

We have handled many appeals from trial court adverse dispositions of legal actions in many appellate courts, from St. Louis, MO to Richmond, VA and Miami, FL, from non-violent felony convictions to murder convictions. Where the client so desires, and a further appeal is meritorious, we have appealed further to state and federal Supreme Courts, where the first level of appeal is unsuccessful in the U.S. Court of Appeals or state courts of appeal. 

Federal appeals are governed by the exacting Federal Rules of Appellate Procedure, supplemented by exacting Local Rules in each separate appeals court. State appeals are governed by the exacting individual statutes or Supreme Court Rules of that particular jurisdiction.

37 past civil and felony appeals in seven circuits courts of the US Circuit Courts  of Appeal and the Supreme Court of the United States.  Results by Steven H. Jesser include substantial shortening of incarceration in two separate federal circuit courts of appeal, from twenty years to eight years, have been achieved by Steven H. Jesser, in appeals following conviction for violent felonies.

State
84 past civil and felony appeals in four of the divisions of the Appellate Court of Illinois, Supreme Court of Illinois, and Wisconsin Court of Appeals. Results include reversal and vacating of a twenty-year old judgment, far beyond allowable time periods. Illinois Supreme Court experience includes argument before the Supreme Court to lessen a death penalty sentence for murder. Client was thereafter not executed by electric chair. 

In addition, many complaints for administrative review, to judicially appeal licensure discipline (restriction, suspension and/or revocation) have been presented and heard in the Circuit Court of Cook Chancery Division for clients-licensees of diverse healthcare and other professions. 

Past appointed Panel Member of the Capital Litigation Task Force Division of the Office of State of Illinois Appellate Defender, represented death penalty-sentenced defendants in post-conviction petitions, and appeared before Circuit Courts and (direct appeals to) the Supreme Court of Illinois.
